December 11th, 2019 was EIT Climate-KIC circular cities kick-down project in Brussels. 2EI Veolia had the opportunity to facilitate the masterclass on Circular Economy and Utilities. Along with the circular cities project’s stakeholders and the Transitions Hub department, 2EI Veolia launched and presented their white paper on the subject: "Circular Cities - A practical approach to develop a city roadmap focusing on utilities".
Speakers included Steven beckers Founder of BIGH urban farming and Founder of Lateral Thinking Factory, Leona Silberstein from Helsinki municipality who gave us insights on circular public procurement, Henrik Engbladh from Malmö municipality and Øystein Leonardsen from Copenhagen municipality who discussed circular economy in refurbishment and construction projects.
The white paper shows how addressing the circular economy in cities requires the design and implementation of transformative activities where different sectors such as water, energy and waste are integrated into systemic roadmaps. A collective understanding of societal problems is essential to progress towards combined system assessments and co-design processes. The white paper also showcases an example of EIT-Climate KIC Transitions Hub’s knowledge management and curation approach in participatory processes that happened in Sofia last year.
